I started repairing PCs about 25 years ago, so before purchasing this memory to upgrade my HP Compaq 8000 Elite SFF desktop, I checked the Hardware Reference Guide to make sure that they should be compatible. Aside from not specifying memory timings, this chip matches the specs for my motherboard. I purchased two 4 GB DIMMs separately, as this was marginally cheaper than buying a set of two packaged together..
I went from 8GB to 16 GB for about 30.00 from these folks. The HP came with 2 ( 4 GB ) ram chips. I added 2 more and brought the total to 16GB.
When you add the RAM chips, and as the PC is booting you will get a message 164-memory mismatch. It then goes on to say press the F1 key. Do this. From there you boot into Windows. At this point I restarted the PC and booted up one more time. Now Windows is aware of the the 16GB system RAM.
Make sure you read the RAM specs for your PC.
You wouldn't think there would be an issue with the dimensional size of ram chips, especially the same type. There was an issue with getting replacement memory for this computer because the cdrom drive was directly above the ram chips with no room to spare. Some of the chips I saw were slightly larger and would not have fit. The bottom of the cdrom drive would have been in the way. This was an identical form factor to the chips that were in the computer before so they worked perfectly. Plus the chips themselves worked perfectly. Easy upgrade.
